A year-long exploration of key supplements for practicing herbalists and nutritionists
When a client comes in with a metaphorical (or sometimes literal!) big brown bag of supplements, there’s a lot to sort through.
Sometimes those supplements make sense and are well-matched to the client’s needs.
More often, they’re a mix of products recommended by another practitioner years ago, things they've heard about on a podcast, in a news story, or from friends, and other pills that just “seemed like a good idea” when they were last at the health food store.
Over time, the supplement list tends to grow. They keep adding, but feel less clear about what if anything to discontinue.
The doses, formulations, quality, and rationale behind them vary widely, and it’s our job as practitioners to figure out which ones are actually helpful, which are doing nothing, and which may be making things harder for the client.
Each month, we’ll take a focused look at a specific supplement (or category of supplements) and ask the questions that matter most in clinical practice:
It takes time to figure all of this out, particularly given that new information becomes available every day.
Behind the scenes, I spend 20+ hours per class (often much more ) reviewing the research, comparing formulations, evaluating mechanisms, and distilling what’s clinically relevant, so you don’t have to.
The goal is that you leave each class with a more clear understanding of common supplements your clients are already taking, including when and why you might recommend them, when not to recommend them (due to lack of relevance or safety concerns), how to choose appropriate forms and doses, and how to help clients simplify and prioritize what actually matters.
All sessions are taught by experienced clinicians and educators who understand both the science and the realities of clinical practice.
Monthly live trainings designed for advanced practitioners to get up-to-date on some of the most common supplements clients are using.
Set aside ninety minutes per month to refresh your knowledge and grow your clinical skills.
Classes are focused on clinical application and the needs/interests of actively practicing clinicians.
Sessions are designed to be focused, clear, and fun. You'll learn just what you need, without unnecessary extras.
The American Nutrition Association has pre-approved these sessions for continuing education credits
This is not a good fit if you are looking for one-size-fits-all solutions, strict protocols, or the promotion of specific supplement brands or regimens. We strive to offer a balanced perspective and generally approach supplements through a skeptical lens with the intention of providing high-quality, evidence-informed client care.
Each 1.5-hour live webinar includes a deep dive into one or more supplements along with a nuanced discussion of the evidence (or lack thereof) pertaining to that supplement. We'll cover indications, safety considerations, dosing strategies, and more.
Can’t make it live? You’ll have access to the recordings, slides, references, and any other resources provided.
All webinars are on Mondays from 5-6:30 pm ET (except for our February class, which is on a Monday from 12-1:30 pm ET)
Complete a short quiz after each webinar, and you’ll get a certificate of completion. While I can’t guarantee that you’ll get continuing education credits, all sessions will be > 50% nutrition/herb-related content, and thus they should count for most of you!
The Supplement Deep Dive has been pre-approved for up to 15 NPCE credits by the American Nutrition Association.
After each webinar, the recording will be posted within 48 hours. You’ll be able to download the slides and access the full references list for each presentation. We’ll also share other links and resources when applicable. NPCEs are available through December 2028.
In case we don't already know one another...
Hi,
I have more than 20 years of clinical experience. I know the ins and outs of being a nutritionist and working with herbs under complex situations.
One of my core skills is breaking down complex topics into practical tips you can use. I spend hours researching each topic (usually 20+ per class) and distill the information with you in mind. I taught physiology and pathophysiology for close to 17 years and combine my background in physiology with my decades of clinical experience to bring you classes that are clear, accessible, and clinically-relevant so that you can provide excellent care.

All Deep Dive sessions are on Mondays from 5-6:30 pm ET except for the February session, which is from 12-1:30 pm ET. Recordings, slides, and reference lists will be posted. Expand each box below to view the class description, when available.
We’ll map out a clear process for deciding when to use supplements, how to prioritize, and how to streamline complex protocols. Expect tools for 'deprescribing', assessing benefit vs risk, avoiding conflicts of interest, and communicating recommendations transparently with clients.
We’ll look at the most commonly used supplements for performance, recovery, body composition, and overall health that are evidence based. You’ll learn which supplements are truly effective, which are overhyped, and how to match the right tools to the right athlete or active population.
Teacher: Jaclyn Sklaver
Learn when to suspect zinc/copper issues, how to test wisely (and interpret results), and how to correct deficiencies without tipping the seesaw. We’ll cover dosing ranges, timing, forms, and interactions with iron and other nutrients. Practical protocols for short courses vs maintenance.
Probiotics in the context of SIBO raise unique concerns: potential symptom worsening, strain-specific effects, and interactions with antimicrobial or dietary strategies. This session focuses on when to use and when to avoid probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics in clients with suspected or confirmed SIBO. We’ll review evidence and mechanisms for common strains, practical sequencing around antibiotics or antimicrobial herbs, breath-test–guided decision making, and alternatives when probiotics cause bloating or symptom flares. You'll leave with clear decision trees for initial trials, escalation, and when to refer for specialized testing.
Dysautonomia and POTS often hinge on simple electrolyte physiology, but clinical application gets messy fast. This session will prioritize practical approaches: when to use oral electrolyte solutions vs dietary strategies, salt loading protocols, magnesium and potassium choices, and monitoring plans. We’ll cover indications for ambulatory BP/HR tracking, orthostatic testing cues, comorbid MCAS or GI losses that complicate repletion, and safety checks for renal or cardiac issues. Expect stepwise algorithms you can apply the same day and product-label literacy for electrolyte mixes.
We’ll review what the data actually supports for glycemic control, lipids, and GI conditions, and where claims outpace evidence. Safety and interaction review included (CYPs, P-gp, meds), dosing forms and duration guidance, and considerations for berberine-containing plants. Clear takeaways on who benefits, who doesn’t, and red-flags.
Registered students will have the chance to suggest topics and to vote on their favorites. Some possibilities include MVMs, CoQ10, allergy-related supplements, myo-inositol, DHEA, and more.
We’ll clarify where omega-3s help (and where they don’t), with attention to dose, EPA:DHA ratios, and client-specific goals. Cover quality concerns (oxidation, contaminants), medication interactions, and vegetarian/vegan options. Leave with dosing ranges tied to clinical endpoints you can explain to clients.
We’ll separate marketing claims from outcomes that matter: BMD, falls, and fractures. Build a stepwise plan that considers calcium balance, vitamin D targets, K2 nuances, protein, collagen, and lifestyle. Safety, dosing, and product quality included.
The growing use of GLP‑1 receptor agonists changes supplement needs and safety considerations. This session catalogs supplements that commonly warrant attention including iron, B12, thiamine, fat‑soluble vitamins, electrolytes, and reviews how weight loss, reduced intake, delayed gastric emptying, and GI side effects affect absorption and tolerance. We’ll discuss screening intervals, symptom-based triggers for labs, practical replacement protocols, and strategies to prevent nutrient shortfalls during rapid weight change.
These trainings are designed for advanced practitioners. You'll get the most out of the Deep Dive if you have a strong background in human physiology and at least some clinical experience.

No problem! Deep Dive single classes are $45 each and can be purchased individually on this site. If you'd like to purchase a single class from a previous deep dive, you can do so from the training library. I also post registration opportunities in my newsletter
There's no bouncer at the door to stop you However, do know that we're assuming everyone attending has a foundation in basic physiology and at least preliminary clinical skills when it comes to herbs and nutrition. We won't be covering the basics (e.g. what is CCK? What are the safety issues associated with licorice?). If you don't have a strong clinical foundation, you might be better off seeking a different program! Contact me if you're not sure whether these classes will be right for you.
We post the recordings within 24-48 hours. You can go back and watch them whenever you’d like. When you register for the full Deep Dive, you'll have access to all replays indefinitely. Quizzes/certificates from the 2026 Supplement Deep Dive need to be completed by December 2028.
I do enable live captioning within Zoom during the classes. It’s not 100% accurate (particularly with anatomical and botanical language), but it’s pretty good. Recordings will have accurate closed captions (we edit these manually to make sure they're right!), and a transcript will also be available. If there’s anything else I can do to make the webinars or the recordings more accessible for you, please reach out.
It's pretty subjective, isn't it? One of the big benefits of signing up is outsourcing the research that's required to stay updated on these topics. Each class usually takes me 20+ hours to prepare. You'll leave with the condensed version that highlights the most important pieces that inform our clinical work, saving you the time and hassle of poring through the latest research yourself. Many active clinicians and students find that dedicating one evening per month to continuing education is very much worth it :). If you aren't sure, consider buying a single deep dive class from a previous year in the training library to get a feel for my teaching style and the depth of the material before you sign up.
These classes have been pre-approved by the American Nutrition Association for up to 15 NPCE credits. They are likely eligible for other organizations as well, although I can’t make any guarantees, as the requirements differ depending on which state you’re in and what type of CEUs you need. Webinars will include at least 50% nutrition- or herb-related information, and presenters will not be selling or promoting any specific products.
Supplement Deep Dive classes are eligible for CEUs through December 2028. Immune System Deep Dive classes are eligible for CEUs through December 2027. Nervous System Deep Dive classes are eligible for CEUs through December 2026.
If you are an advanced herb/nutrition student or if you are an educator in an advanced herb/nutrition program, please contact me to discuss discounts for your program, which may include students, educators and/or alumni. I will ask you to share the discounted offer with others in your school/program. I offer a 25% discount when up to 10 people enroll from a particular school/program, and a 50% discount when 11+ people enroll.
Parity pricing is available for people living in countries where the cost of goods and services is substantially lower than what we experience in the US. Parity pricing adjusts the cost of the Deep Dive based on these factors. If you are in this situation, please contact Camille!
Yes! When you join Monday Mentoring, the Supplement Deep Dive + my full webinar library are included in your membership (including all previous Deep Dives). You can also purchase individual classes and courses from my library. Monday Mentoring costs between $75 and $129 per month.
