Things I Use, Love, or Enjoy

Whether you're just getting started or have been in practice for a while, I hope you find these resources helpful. This list is a work in progress, so please bear with me as I add & test links and round out my recommendations.

Have a suggestion? Feel free to reach out any time.

Note that some of these are referral links, meaning I may receive a small credit or commission if you decide to purchase.

Books & Book-Related

I couldn't possibly list all of my book recommendations here, so you'll have to check out my full book lists on Bookshop.org. However, here are 3 books I recommend: the book I wrote, which I highly recommend if newsletters are a core part of your marketing plan, plus two I recommend to all practitioners, new or experienced.

Book-Related Extras

  • You can install the Library Extension to detect whether books are available at your local library when visiting Amazon and related sites. Available on Chrome, Edge or Firefox for free, no account needed.
  • StoryGraph lets you keep track of the books you've read/want to read, set goals for the year, etc. Excellent & free alternative to Goodreads, which is owned by Amazon now.
  • Did you know that you can pay an annual fee to get a library card outside of your home city? You can then borrow/hold even more e-books and audiobooks via Libby/Overdrive. Some that have excellent programs include the Queens Public Library,  New Orleans Public Library, and the Charlotte Mecklenberg Libary
  • Bookshop.org is an online book store that supports local bookstores. See my recommended books on Bookshop

Podcasts

New to podcasts? Here's a post I made about how to get started listening to podcasts. Also, check out the podcast brunch club, which is like a book club, but for podcasts.

Software & Tools

MailerLite

Very affordable choice for your newsletter and email lists, with plenty of features for the price, especially compared to other services.

Zenler

I use Zenler as a course/learning management system. You can check out my review of Zenler. I appreciate that it comes with a Zoom account.

Practice Better

Practice Better is the EMR system I use (see my review here). I'd say it saves me at least 30-60 min per new client, often more!

Upbase

I use Upbase as a project/task manager (see my review here). There are so many similar tools, but this one makes sense to my brain...

Protonmail

A privacy-first email service offering tons of features, file storage, VPN and more.

Warm Welcome

Lots of people ask about the little "talking head" circle that appears on some pages of my website. This is it!

ScreenPal

I use ScreenPal or Tella (see below) to create short video replies to email and other messages.

Tricider

This free tool is great if you want to gather feedback and ideas from people and let them vote on their top choices

Alternative Balance

I use AB for professional liability insurance as they offer specific coverage for herbalists (and nutritionists!)

Let's do the Books

Bookkeeping made simple! I love their flexible pricing plan, and it's great to have help here.

Thrive Themes

I've been using Thrive Themes to design and maintain my  website since 2014 (!)

Tella

I've been using Tella to create and edit video content for Substack and my online courses. Highly recommend!

Even More

Marketing and Business Support

Clinical Mentorship and Skills

Continuing Education

Tools and links for clients

Bonus!

These recommendations don't necessarily have anything to do with clinical practice, but you still might like them :)

Newsletters I Enjoy

I'm not including practitioner newsletters here, generally, as the list would be too long and I'd be too paranoid about leaving someone out. These are more general interest!

Getting out of the house

Looking to get out more, literally or virtually? Here are some things that could be fun.

  • Homework Club from Beth Pickens is so good if you think of yourself as an artist of any kind
  • If you're visiting a National Park in the US, check to see if there's a Guidealong audio tour. They're excellent.
  • Guess Where Trips - mystery road trips, these are fun!
  • Morning Coffee Sessions from Firefly Creative Writing (or any of their programs) are lovely for creative writing with absolutely no pressure
  • If you live in a biggish city, you can meet 5 strangers for dinner on Wednesday
  • Sit & Write offers Saturday co-working for creative writers
  • Did you know that there's such a thing as a silent book club?
  • If you live in a bigger city, you might be able to sign up for DoMore - $7/mo for 2 tickets to something fun in your city.
  • Work better with others? Check out your local coworking space; Focusmate and Caveday are great virtual options
  • Walk with a Doc: Either go on a walk or (if you're licensed!) you can start your own walking group.
