I get asked for advice on how to structure classes and workshops relatively often.

My top suggestion for anyone who's planning a class is to avoid flooding the participants with too much information.

There's nothing worse than sitting in a lecture or class, frantically taking notes, and leaving feeling sure that the instructor is very smart and knows the subject well, but not sure how any of it relates to you.

I love how Rob Fitzpatrick and Devin Hunt put this in their Workshop Survival Guide:

Your job is to provide your audience with a small, curated set of sharp, useful takeaways which meaningfully improve their lives.

No need to jam in as much information as you can.

Instead, start with the quote above, and I bet your class will be fantastic.

Take care,

Camille

p.s. Happy Halloween to those who celebrate 🎃
