My book is out today
It's called Write Better Newsletters: Grow your 1:1 practice with emails people actually want to read.
I'm working on a full post about the writing and publishing process, but since today is the book's birthday, I thought I'd share a bit about why I decided to write it.
From a strategic perspective, this book does not make sense. I am not hoping or intending to become a newsletter guru. I am not trying to make a living from my newsletter instruction.
It took the better part of a year to write, edit, format, and publish Write Better Newsletters, and most self-published books sell substantially fewer than 100 copies. Optimistically, the hourly rate for the work that went into the book winds up being around $3-5.
Knowing all of this, I wrote the book anyway for a few reasons:
- It felt like it had to come out into the world. I know a lot about newsletters both from writing my own and helping others with theirs over many years. I want people to have this info, and I want it to be affordable. Rather than repeating my advice each time it comes up, it seemed easiest and most accessible to get it down into one place for reference.
- I haven't seen any great resources on how to use newsletters specifically to bring in more clients. This type of newsletter-writing is different from writing a newsletter to gain followers or to sell products. The material I have seen on writing newsletters often feels pushy, awkward, or not appropriate for the type of work practitioners do. This book didn't exist, I wanted it to exist, so I wrote it.
- I like learning new things. Getting this book published was hard, but it was the good kind of hard. I learned a lot about myself, I made some great friends, I felt supported in so many ways by others, I learned more than I ever wanted to know about the publishing process, and I refined my thinking about marketing and newsletters along the way.
Whether it sells 10 copies or 1,000 copies, I do think it was worth it. I'm excited to see how it lands and hope that those who read it feel supported and excited about writing a newsletter to find more clients.
If you have a newsletter or would like to have one, I hope you'll find some value in the book. You can order from Amazon, Bookshop, Kobo, Google Play Books, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, and many other places books are available.
If you do find the book helpful, I would so appreciate a review on whichever platform you used to buy the book (or Goodreads/StoryGraph)
Thanks to everyone who has supported me in the writing process. It has meant so much to have your feedback and encouragement.
Take care,
Camille
