I'm just back from the International Herb Symposium - which filled my cup in so many ways.
Also, my brain is fried 🥴
So, instead of writing something new this week, I thought I'd share a short piece I wrote on LinkedIn a while back:
I was reading an article the other day about the rules we create for ourselves. Here's one rule I made for myself, maybe 10 years ago, that I thought might be helpful to share:
📕 When someone I know - even a little bit - writes a book, I always buy it. 📕
Whether I'm interested in the topic or not. Whether I know the person well or only tangentially. Whether it seems outrageously overpriced or an absolute steal.
If I listen to someone's podcast regularly and they write a book, I buy it.
If I've been reading their newsletter for a while and they write a book, I buy it.
Why?
It's a "thank you" for being brave enough to write and publish. It's a "thank you" for existing, being a human who's willing to share your thoughts and experiences with the rest of us. It's a vote for the creative process.
If you think about it, it's amazing that someone can pour hundreds - thousands! - of hours and a lifetime of experience into a book, and we can buy it for (usually) < $30.
Sometimes I keep the book, and sometimes I give it to someone else. Either way, it feels good to support people who've touched my life in big ways and small ones.
Having the "always buy the book" rule, for whatever reason, simplifies things on my end. I don't have to think about it, I just buy the book ❤️
Take care,
Camille
