I received a great question last week, and thought others might be interested in the answer as well.
Tara asked if I had any recommendations for good physiology books.
As I’m sure you know, physiology is the study of healthy human function. The main class I teach at MUIH is our introductory human physiology course, and I LOVE this subject.
If you want a basic review of anatomy and physiology, I recommend the OpenStax A&P textbook, which is free and can be accessed online. (Teachers, you can even use the images from the book on your slides as long as you cite them properly!)
For my physiology course at MUIH, I heavily modified a version of the OpenStax book above, weaning it down for a 1-trimester course with a focus primarily on physiology and not anatomy. I made my best attempt to use gender-inclusive language throughout.
The version I modified includes my lectures (as well as lectures from the fabulous Dr. Keren Dolen) embedded in the text. This one is also open access & available to anyone to use/view online. You can view my version here.
Other textbooks I like include Human Anatomy & Physiology by Elaine Marieb, Guyton and Halls' Medical Physiology, and Human Physiology by Dee Silverthorn. You can often get slightly older editions on eBay for much less $ than the current edition.
Hope that’s useful, and thanks for your question, Tara!
Take care,
Camille
P.s. I added a section on herb books and one on memoir to my book recommendation lists on Bookshop.
