I had a brilliant idea last week when I was walking my dog. Sadly, I can’t remember what it was now. Sigh.

Not remembering it reminded me that I wanted to tell you about something that made a big difference for me over the past few years: a practice notebook.

If you’ve taken my Roots or Grow courses, you’ll be familiar with this idea.

Essentially, it’s a notebook where you keep important info related to your practice. It can be virtual or an actual notebook.

Mine is journal I got in a goodie bag when I was attending a conference in Dallas.

The idea is to put things here that you’ll want to reference later.

Mine has pages for:

  • Podcast topic ideas
  • A running list of webinars or classes I want to teach
  • Some basic budget numbers for my practice
  • Seasonal Intentions/goals
  • Outlines of classes and courses that I’ve planned
  • Notes from classes I’ve taken that relate to running a practice/finding clients (just the most important points, 1 page per class, max)
  • A list of books to read related to my practice
  • My notes from books I’ve read (just 1-2 pages per book, max)
  • The colors/fonts I use on my website
  • And more…

It’s not formal or particularly organized.

Having somewhere to keep these ideas has been incredibly helpful, though.

I can look through the notebook for inspiration if I’m feeling stuck.

I know where to put ideas as they arise (as long as I can remember them long enough to write them down 😖).

Key info is easy to find and reference later. For example, I refer to the hex codes for my website colors multiple time per week. Who knew being an herbalist/nutritionist would involve so many graphics?

If you don’t have a practice notebook, think about starting one.

Next week, I'll share more about the most important pages in my notebook and why they've made such a difference for me.

Talk soon!
